The Jewel of Paradise Coast
How many states in our amazing country can match the mythology of Florida? Go ahead; we’ll wait for an answer. That’s right, none! Not one. I know, perhaps we are a bit jaded, but as locals who have spent a lot of years living in Paradise – Naples, Florida – we can heartily attest to the fact. Sure, you’ll occasionally be trapped in the fast lane behind a Buick going 35 miles per hour under the speed limit with the left blinker eternally flashing, but you’ll also reap the benefits of an absolutely incredible state. To appreciate what Florida offers, you gotta veer off the beaten path. Consider Naples – just a beach destination, right? Of course not, although we will admit the beaches are beyond awesome! But this destination is also packed with so many other exciting things to do.
In a town filled with worldly pleasures, here are just 5 highlights why Naples is not your ordinary beach destination, and also why you might want to consider packing up the family and getting down here before summer passes by.
Upon your arrival to Naples, the first thing you’ll want to do is sink your toes into the soft white sand along one of the many shorelines Naples has to offer and take a deep breath of salt air. We know, we said there were things to do other than the beach, but you do have to start at the best part and work your way from there. Did you know for example, that The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club sits on 7 miles of the softest white sand beach you’ll ever come in contact with? What a glorious beginning for any family getaway.
What else you might ask? Well how about the fact that the largest of Florida’s 10,000 islands is an easy drive from Naples. Almost all of the “ten thousand islands” are currently uninhabited, but the largest, Chokoloskee Island – which is connected to Everglades City – has about 400 permanent residents. The main attraction of course is the Ten Thousand Island National Wildlife Refuge (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/ten_thousand_islands/) which the entire family will enjoy. From there you can embark on a thrilling air boat ride, send a post card from the smallest post office in the USA, hike multiple trails and parks, among many other thrilling and exotic activities.
Want to soak up the beautiful southwestern Florida summer weather, but your kids have been worn out by the beach? Take them to the Naples Zoo where exotic animals meet eclectic botanical gardens. An intimate feel allows for easy viewing and walking compared to many venues. As well, boat tours, feedings, and excursions make the zoo a must do when in Naples. This is simply one of these ventures that will never be a miss.
Deep Sea Fishing:
If you’ve been thinking more than you should about the “catch of a lifetime”, well, Naples Beach is the place to be. Just a few minutes from The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club are some of the most renowned deep-sea fishing charters that Southwest Florida has to offer. Massive Snapper, Hard-Fighting Grouper, Amberjack and Cobia are just some of the many challenges that lurk the waters just off the Naples Beach shoreline. Not sure about which charter company to go with? Just connect with our concierge in the lobby. And make sure you take lots of pictures.
When the sun dips down beyond the horizon, tropical nights are yours to embrace in this amazing eclectic atmosphere. Believe us when we say that the same downtown Naples that host family-friendly shopping and dining during the day, like Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South, double as after-dark hot spots serving up hand-crafted cocktails, dance-worthy live music and a variety of wonderful dining options. While an expanding demographic of young professionals has sparked a burgeoning of after-work options and vitality, there is no doubt that the beauty of Naples nightlife is its rich mix of ages, residents, snowbirds, tourists, and everyone in between. A final thought: you won’t want to miss the over 100 galleries, museums, and theaters in the area – the Naples Beach local art scene is truly alive and unmatched.
Jazz it up:
A must see while visiting Naples is the vibrant and lively SummerJazz on the Gulf concert series at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club. Featuring a different Jazz band one Saturday a month from June through September, we recommend a relaxing evening you’ll remember for a very long time. This year’s SummerJazz series kicks off year 33 of the annual free festivities on the picturesque Watkins Lawn, where you’ll not only hear amazing music, but enjoy the most incredible sunsets. While you’re there, you might also want to check out HB’s on the Gulf for some delicious dining choices, or the Sunset Bar and Grill for some evening entertainment, food, drink and lively company.
